LAHORE: 27 year old Fauzia became yet another name in the long list of women who suffer at the hands of the patriarchy prevalent in our society when she was doused with oil by her in-laws and set on fire.
The incident occurred in Begum Kot, Shahdara Town, and the victim suffered severe burn injuries.
Fauzia had married Shamrez two years ago, with her husband soon going abroad to seek employment.
Fauzia claims that her in-laws started harassing her as soon as her husband left, which forced Fauzia to leave her in-laws and to start living with her parents.
Her husband Shamrez, however, called Fauzia from abroad two days ago, and asked her to return to her in-laws’ house.
Following her husband’s advice, Fauzia took the fateful decision on returning, and was greeted by her hostile in-laws who doused her in oil and set her on fire.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the culprits, and an investigation is currently underway.
